The main building (the clan house) is called Leong San Tong. Khoo Kongsi is south-west of George Town. However, the clan house is still a wonder to behold today with its intricate wood and stone carvings by master craftsmen from China! In any case, the clan house was rebuilt in a 4-year long project that was completed in 1906, albeit smaller. Supposedly the fire was started by lightning and many at the time, deemed it to be an act of anger by the gods, jealous of the building’s grandeur! While Khoo Kongsi has long since ceased most of its former activities for the Khoo clan association, it remains a top Penang attraction of immense cultural value! Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture to show you the things they have… Here are some that we ordered though… Siu Mai Crab Stick Fish Paste Salted Egg Siu Mai Next up, their dim sum!! They have quite a bit of variety. We ordered a prawn “chee cheong fun”, but there were only one or two tiny bits of prawn, and the rest was empty. Their “chee cheong fun” however is nothing great. Restaurant Clan is also famous for other baos’ (i.e. It contains chicken meat, mushroom, salted egg yolk and of course, glutinous rice!! XD This is something very unique and it tastes good. They are famous for their “kai wo bao” which looks like a hybrid of a bao and a “lo mai kai”. Alright, time to introduce their famous dish… Famous “Kai Wo” Service on weekends are comparatively faster as they do not pre-steam the dim sum on weekdays. As for weekdays, the place is not as packed, but because its the school holidays, the place was pretty congested. On weekends, this place is packed with lots of people waiting at the sides and jumping in once you get up. And I always enjoy going to this particular place, Restoran Clan. This morning, my family and I decided to have dim sum.
